Madeline – Adopted!

This gentle Basset Hound is 6–7 years old (estimated birthday in December) and weighs a petite 48.5 lbs. She is spayed, fully vetted, and ready to find a loving forever home.

She is housebroken, though she may have an occasional accident as she continues adjusting to home life. With patience and consistency, she’s making steady progress.

Her personality is truly special—she is incredibly sweet, calm, and gentle. She is fantastic with people and gets along great with other dogs, especially those who are calm and not overly loud. She has been living in a pack environment and takes comfort in other dogs, often looking to them for cues. Because of this, she would thrive in a home with one or two other easygoing dogs—another Basset would be a perfect match!

She has zero aggression of any kind, including around food. She enjoys walks and has an active sniffer – though she can still pull a bit on the leash. Due to her nervousness, she will need to remain on a leash at all times unless in a securely fenced yard—loud noises can startle her and cause her to run. She is fascinated by rabbits and will give chase!

Her past has been very difficult. She came from an Amish breeding situation where she lived entirely in a shed with little to no human interaction. She was surrendered after developing two severe hernias that impacted her ability to produce puppies. Thankfully, those days are behind her—she is now healthy, safe, and beginning her journey toward a better life.

Because of her background, she will need a patient, compassionate adopter who can provide a calm environment, a soft touch and lots of encouragement. She’s still learning what it means to be a cherished pet and will need time to build confidence and trust—but she is so worth it.

Her eyes tell her story, and her heart is as kind as they come. She is truly one of the sweetest dogs you could ever meet.
