Notes from Lucy's caregiver:

Name: Lucy

Nicknames: Lucy Lu, Lulu, Ootsie
Age: 5 yrs 3 mos

Lucy came to rescue due to jealousy issues with older dogs in the house. She just wants all the lovin’ for herself, and I promise you will want to give her whatever she wants! One look in those gorgeous brown eyes of hers and it’s Game Over!

In her foster home, Lucy lives with a senior cat and two senior bassets. She is doing great! She does have jealousy issues when she is receiving attention and the others try to join, but so far we have been able to tell her “no” and she stops. That may change as she becomes more relaxed. For now, she has shown some jealousy and growling at our dogs when she is with one of us and they approach, but also very submissive behavior when our dogs guard their food bowls or toys from her when she tries to approach.

This little sweet pea loves to relax on all of the furniture with her people, and at night she sleeps right in the people bed. She’s a great little sleeping buddy, it’s pretty adorable. Lucy would probably be most happy as an only dog, or in a home with pets that don’t compete for attention. Little Lulu is a Velcro dog for sure. She sticks by your side and is not happy to let you out of her sight. She can get herself pretty worked up about it.

We are still trying to get Lucy to go down the steps inside our house. She will go up but will not go down, and will do the funniest back up dance if you try to coax her. She will go up and down the steps on our outdoor deck but those steps were custom built for basset legs (no joke), so for now I would say she prefers a ranch style floor plan.

Lucy is used to a doggy door or someone being home all the time to let her out. She does not like to go potty on a leash and is used to having a fenced area to safely roam. If you don’t have these accommodations it will require time and training for her to adjust.
